Born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Jay Aaseng found comedy at an early age, badgering a friend to perform Abbott & Costello’s “Who’s On First” routine for a grade school talent show. Growing up he spent large chunks of time filming absurd shorts and sketches with friends and family, which he then parlayed into a major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the guise of Communication Arts. Upon moving to Los Angeles, a random turn found him working under writer/director David Lynch, first as an assistant, then as a producer while continuing to appear on stage and screen in equally random capacities.
Jay’s feature film credits include CABIN FEVER and INLAND EMPIRE, as well as comedy web series News 4 Blondes and Love Midori. He has performed improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood, and has extensive experience in voice acting, having lent his voice to numerous commercial campaigns such as Carl’s Jr., Coca- Cola, and JC Penney. He has also narrated multiple audiobook titles for Audible.com through acclaimed audiobook producer Deyan Audio.
Jay is proud to be a part of the Falling Apples family, having directed their inaugural play “Beyond All Understanding” and assisted behind the scenes with subsequent plays “Off White” and “Missing Grace.” He’s thrilled to be starring in Falling Apples’ current production of “Off Book,” the fourth original comedy from playwright Khai Dattoli.
Jay resides in Los Angeles with his wife Amber and a neighborhood cat that sometimes wanders into their apartment, but isn’t actually theirs.
